Skydivers Collide In Mid-Air, Both Fatally Injured

One Was 70, The Other 75 Years Old

Two skydivers, both with hundreds of jumps to their credit, died over the weekend after they collided in mid-air about 100 feet above the ground and their parachutes became entangled.

Theodore (Teddy) Wilson, age 70, and 75-year-old George Flynn lost their lives in what was described as a "freak" accident over the Poconos near East Stroudsburg, PA on Saturday. The pair, along with 18 others, started the jump a 13,500 feet, free-falling for about a minute before they opened their chutes.

The New York Daily News reports that about 100 feet above the ground, the two men, who were close friends, slammed into each other and their chutes became entangled. They both fell to the ground, suffering fatal injuries. Wilson died at about 1445 at Pocono Medical Center. Flynn was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital, where he reportedly briefly regained consciousness before passing away Sunday.

Wilson had begun skydiving at age 60, and had recorded 545 jumps over the past decade. Flynn had 1,500 jumps to his credit. The accident occurred on Wilson's third jump of the day.
