SOREM Italy Purchases Two CL-215 Amphibious Aircraft

Bombardier Aerospace has announced the sale of two pre-owned CL-215(i) amphibious aircraft to SOREM, the official operator of Bombardier amphibious aircraft for the Italian Civil Protection Agency of Italy.

"SOREM's purchase of CL-215 aircraft, clearly demonstrates its commitment to scooping technology and the potential for further expansion in the European market," said Michel Bourgeois, president, Bombardier Aerospace, Amphibious Aircraft.

"We are quite pleased with our acquisition of these CL-215 aircraft," said Giuseppe Spadaccini, president of SOREM. "These aircraft will allow us to expand our business base in Europe. The support received from Bombardier over the years has been a major factor in our decision."

There are 68 CL-215(i), the world's first aircraft specifically developed to fight forest fires, still in operation worldwide; 17 of these aircraft were converted to a turboprop configuration designated CL-215T. Bombardier also offers the next generation of amphibious aerial firefighting aircraft, the Bombardier 415.

In the Mediterranean region, France, Croatia, Italy and Greece currently operate 38 Bombardier 415 amphibious aircraft. In addition, Spain operates 15 CL-215T turboprop aircraft, while Greece and Spain have 19 CL-215 piston aircraft in service.

The Bombardier 415 (shown above and below), the world's most advanced waterbomber, has a maximum speed of 235 mph. In an average mission of six nm distance from water to fire, the Bombardier 415 can complete nine drops within an hour, delivering 14,600 U.S. gallons  of water or foam fire suppressant. It is also being offered in a new multi-purpose version (Bombardier 415MP) for search and rescue, maritime patrol and environmental protection with certification expected later this year.
