AMA Drone Report 07.18.19: DJI Anamorphic Lens, Skymagic, NUAIR Validates Chute

Moment, a company known for making add-on lenses for smartphones, is expanding its product line to include an anamorphic lens for DJI drones.

The company launched a Kickstarter campaign for the lens, that will clip to the existing camera installed on DJI Mavic 2 Pro or Mavic 2 Zoom aircraft, allowing the camera to capture a wider field of view and has the capability to add cinematic lens flares to videos captured by the drones. Moment says it was able to fly a Mavic 2 Pro drone in heavy winds with the lens attached with no effect on the aircraft's performance. Skymagic designed and delivered a drone light show at this year's Zurich Festival, performing over the weekend in front of over a million spectators. The synchronized swarm of 150 drones was launched high into the night sky - directly from a floating pontoon in the middle of the lake that was custom built by the festival exclusively for the drone show. Following tests completed by Northeast UAS Airspace Integration Research (NUAIR) at the New York UAS Test Site in Rome, New York, Israel-based drone company Flytrex, has had the parachute on its package delivery drones validated as compliant with industry standards. This is the second parachute standard validation performed by NUAIR. Currently, the FAA prohibits most drones from being flown directly over people. Professional drone operators can apply for a waiver from that restriction if they can demonstrate they have robust safety mitigations in place including having a validated parachute. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of the AMA Drone Report!!!
