Condor Recieves First A330 Under Fleet Replacement Plan

All-Airbus Fleet Inbound for German Airline

German Airline Condor Flugdienst GmbH has received the first of its new A330-900 widebody aircraft, marking off the start of a 16-strong order of A330neo aircraft.

Earlier this year, Condor decided to give its fleet an almost complete makeover, starting with its existing short and medium-haul aircraft. Its fleet of Airbus 320s, 321s, and Boeing 757s went on the chopping block, Condor citing improvements in fuel consumption, noise, and pollution. Last July, the Condor Supervisory Board placed an order for 41 aircraft of the A32X series, originally slated to include 13 A320neos and 28 Airbus A321neos.

The fleet soon announced the replacement of its long-haul Boeing 767s with the A330neo, building up a decidedly European fleet with nothing but Airbus across the board. The A330 has proven popular with passengers on its longest routes, thanks to its modern amenities and improved layout. For passengers, larger overhead storage, improved lighting, full device connectivity, and fully revamped entertainment have proven popular. For Condor, the reduction in costs, fuel, and emissions has been appreciated, too.

Last July, Ralf Teckentrup, Condor CEO, kicked off the aircraft-buying bonanza by portraying it as a matter of course for a forward-looking airline. "With the replacement of our entire long-haul fleet with the latest 2-litre aircraft by early 2024," Teckentrup said. "It is the obvious next step for us to modernise our short-haul and medium-haul fleet as well. With our new A320neo and A321neo aircraft, we are consistently developing our fleet and ourselves as a company, and also taking care of our own ambition to enable responsible and at the same time comfortable travel with significantly reduced carbon emissions, lower fuel consumption and less noise," says Ralf Teckentrup, CEO of Condor.
