Artist Turns Cement Truck Drum Into Faux Space Capsule

Caused A Stir Among Motorists Along I-10 In Arizona

It was certainly not what motorists expected to see while driving along Interstate 10 outside Casa Grande, AZ. What looked like a space capsule, complete with an American Flag and the words "United States" stenciled on the side caused several people to contact authorities believing an errant spacecraft had come down in the desert.

But it turned out to be an art piece created by artist Jack Millard out of the drum from a cement truck.

The Arizona Republic reports that Millard and another artist began the project February 2. Millard spotted the abandoned cement truck sitting in a field, and thought it looked like a space capsule. From there he just got an "impulse to create" the piece.

Along with the flag and "United States", Millard stenciled "Capt. J. Millard" on the drum. There was a parachute attached to it to add to the authenticity.

Millard told the paper that he explained to anyone who stopped ... including the police ... that it was just an art project.
