NATA Applauds Tiahrt Legislation To Restore Promotion Role To FAA

NATA President James K. Coyne applauded legislation introduced Wednesday by Kansas Congressman Todd Tiahrt (pictured right) to restore the mission of promoting aviation to the FAA.

The Promotion Responsibility for Our U.S. Aviation Act of 2005 (PRO U.S. Aviation Act of 2005) restores to the FAA the job of promoting aviation that was stripped from the agency’s mandate by Congress in 1996.

“I believe it is imperative that the U.S. government is engaged in promoting an industry that has lost ground to government subsidized companies throughout the world,” said Tiahrt. “We cannot continue to force our companies to compete on an uneven playing field, and by promoting the aviation industry the FAA can help maintain and create U.S. jobs.”

“The aviation community needs and deserves a voice in government that will promote its best interests within the government and to the public,” said Coyne. “Restoring the role of promoting the aviation industry to the FAA will demonstrate to the rest of the world that the United States is committed to a strong aviation system for all stakeholders.

“NATA applauds Representative Tiahrt for the strength of vision he has demonstrated by introducing this legislation,” Coyne said.

“The entire aviation community should be supportive of this measure, and we look forward to working with the FAA to promote once again aviation in the world marketplace.”
