Governor Hails Move To New Offices In Danbury
Corporate Angel Network (CAN) announced it has moved to new offices in Danbury, Connecticut. CAN is a nonprofit organization that provides free transportation on business aircraft for cancer patients to travel to specialized treatment centers.
Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont praised the move. He said, “Corporate Angel Network provides an incredible and valuable service to cancer patients in their most significant times of need, and I am so glad to welcome this respected organization and its staff to Connecticut.”
Participation in CAN’s program is open to all cancer patients and also bone marrow and stem cell donors and recipients who are ambulatory and do not require any medical assistance during travel.
CAN is able to provide transportation services through the generosity of corporate flight departments and other operators who make unused seats on their business jets available for patients. CAN flew more than 2,000 patient flights in 2023. However, many patients are still challenged when they need care in distant locations, especially when they live in remote areas or when in need financially.
Robert Stangarone, CAN President and CEO points out that, “With more than 600,000 cancer deaths and two million new cancer cases each year, our challenge is to provide many more patients with this service. For years, patient requests for flights have outnumbered aircraft available by a factor of two. To address this shortfall, CAN recently expanded the fleet of aircraft available for patient transportation from only jets to the thousands of single- and twin-engine turboprop aircraft currently in operation.”
