Selfie Leads To Strike On ISIS Base

Militant 'Moron' Posted Photo On Social Media Which Led To ID Of Base Location

We've all been cautioned about putting things on social media that could lead to an unfavorable outcome, but one ISIS militant apparently couldn't resist posting a "selfie" of himself in front of his headquarters.

Well, score one for the good guys. Less than 24 hours later, the USAF hit the base in Syria, and obliterated it.

Multiple media outlets including The Washington Times reports that Air Force General Hawk Carlisle, the head of Air Combat Command, said Monday that the 361st Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group at Hurlburt Field, FL found the photo on an unnamed social media site, and were able to determine the location of the base from the surroundings in the photo. Gen. Carlisle said that less than 24 hours later, the base was bombed by U.S. forces.

“The guys that were working down out of Hurlburt, they’re combing through social media and they see some moron standing at this command. And in some social media, open forum, bragging about the command and control capabilities for Daesh, ISIL," Gen. Carlisle said, according to a report from Military.com. "And these guys go: ‘We got an in.’ So they do some work, long story short, about 22 hours later through that very building, three [Joint Direct Attack Munitions] take that entire building out.”
