King Air Down At Wichita Mid-Continent Airport

Aircraft Impacted Flight Safety International Building, Two Fatally Injured, Five Missing

A Beechcraft King Air with one person on board went down on departure Thursday morning at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport in Wichita, KS, impacting the Flight Safety International Building.

Two people are confirmed fatally injured, according to authorities. The Wichita Eagle reports that five were transported to Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, and Wichita Fire Chief Ron Blackwell said five are missing.

The King Air B200 impacted the roof of the building, and a post-impact fire ensued. The FAA said in a statement that the airplane had experienced engine problems after departure, and was attempting to return to the airport when the accident occurred.

More than 100 people work in the Flight Safety International building, according to reports. It was not known how many were actually in the building when the accident occurred.
