Here's One Way To Encourage Reading...

If Only Someone Could Do This With Gas Cards!

About 100 million rupiah fell from the sky Sunday when a well-known Indonesian businessman dropped the money from an airplane to promote his new book. Converted to US dollars, the sum totaled approximately $10,700.

The author, Tung Desem Waringin, is well known for his publicity stunts. Three years ago the author and motivational speaker rode the streets of Jakarta on a horse dressed as a celebrated Indonesian war hero to launch his first book.

Circling eight times over a soccer field in the city of Serang, about 40 miles west of Jakarta, Waringin emptied bag after bag over the crowd below, CNN reported.

Excited onlookers grabbed what they could as the notes fell to the ground. Schoolchildren danced around with their finds as both young and old fought for fistfuls of cash. Several could be seen massaging their feet after the rush.

The stunt promoted Waringin's new book "Marketing Revolution" said Fajar Ramdani, the media coordinator for the event.

Originally the stunt was slated to occur over the capital of Jakarta, but police were fearful of crowds and chaos that might ensue and rejected his petition according to local media.

Millions of Indonesian citizens live on merely $2 a day or less. Indonesia is grappling with rising food and fuel prices and the stunt was expected to generate a tremendous response.

Waringin said he would rather share money for a promotional campaign with people who needed it.
