Source: The former mission statement of the National Aeronautic and Space Administration. This past February, however, NASA altered the statement -- removing the portion about learning more about Earth, and focusing instead on manned missions to the Moon and Mars. That has prompted outcry from many NASA researchers and scientists, who say removal of the phrase shows a politically-motivated shifting of NASA's priorities away from such issues as studying the effects of global warming.
