Quartz Mountain Aviation Assets Go On The Auction Block

Luscombe 185 Factory To Be Auctioned This Weekend

ANN has received notice that the Luscombe 185-11E factory in Altus, Oklahoma on The Altus Municipal Airport will be auctioned this Friday and Saturday, with the auction to include the airplane's type and production certificates, along with all jigs, fixtures, dies, specialty tooling, drawings, blue prints, engineering data and aircraft specific inventory needed to manufacturer the Luscombe Model 185-11E aircraft.

The auction will be held March 26th and 27th at Quartz Mountain Aviation in Altus.

Quartz Mountain reintroduced the Luscombe 185-11E in 2008 after it changed the aircraft from a taildragger to tricycle gear and got a type certificate for the aircraft in the new configuration. As Aero TV reported in 2008, the 185-11E was an adaptation of the Luscombe Model 11A Sedan, introduced in 1946. The new model was distinguished by superior in-flight and landing stability over the tailwheel-equipped Sedan.

But the company filed for bankruptcy in November of 2009, and now the factory and numerous other items will be sold at auction in an effort to satisfy some of the company's debt to private creditors and the City of Altus.

Along with the items mentioned above, the list of assets to be sold separately includes:

  • (7) Luscombe 185-11 Flying Aircraft with Zero to Very Low Time.
  • (5) Continental IO-360 Factory New Engines.
  • New Hartzell and McCaulley Propellers.
  • A large Selection of New Garmin Radios, 100's of New Instruments, Antennas & Avionics & Instrument Inv.
  • A very Large Selection of New Hardware.
  • 100's of New Cleveland Wheels, Brakes, Master Cylinders, Brake Valves, Shimmy Dampners, Etc.
  • 100's of Pneumatic Drills, Rivet Guns, Rivet Pullers, Bucking Bars, Rivet Squeezers, Etc.

Starman Brothers Auctions says this will be a major auction representing a complete liquidation of the assets of Quartz Mountain Aviation. Potential bidders should register to bid online at the Starman Brothers website.
