AirVenture 2025 To Showcase Korean War Era Aviation Innovation

Featuring Transition From Piston-Powered Aircraft To Fighter Jets

Aircraft of the Korean War Era, which began 75 years ago in 1950, will be on prominent display at this year’s EAA AirVenture Fly-in and Convention at Wittman Regional Airport (KOSH) in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, that runs July 21-27.

The transition from piston-powered fighters and bombers to turbofan-propelled fighter jets will be highlighted both during the daily air shows and on display in Boeing Plaza and the Warbirds area of the field.

Piston aircraft from the era that are committed to AirVenture include the Corsair, P-51 Mustang, B-29 Stratofortress, AD-4 and AD-5W Skyraiders, PBY4, and the L-5. Jets attending are the P-80, F-84, MiG-15, MiG-17, and F-86 Sabre.

This year also notes the 85th anniversary of the Corsair, 80th anniversary of the A-1 Skyraider, and the 75th anniversary of the MiG-17.

Rick Larsen, EAA’s Vice President of Communities and Member Programs, who coordinates AirVenture features and attractions explains, “While legendary World War II aircraft such as the Corsair and P-51 Mustang still were widely flown at the start of the Korean War in 1950, a new age of jets rapidly came to the front lines during that time.

“It marked a permanent change in aviation technology that will be prominent at Oshkosh this year.”

Some of the aircraft will be present for the entire week, but many will focus on Wednesday through Friday July 23-25, when most will participate in the air show performances. The EAA’s Theater in the Woods and Fly-In Theater will present programming to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Korean War.
