ERAU-Worldwide Opens Two Military Locations in Iraq

Will Open This Month At Camp Victory And Balad

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University – Worldwide announced recently the opening of two new locations in Iraq. The teaching locations will open in early March at Camp Victory and at Balad Airbase.

Camp Victory is the primary component of the Victory Base Complex that occupies the area surrounding Baghdad International Airport.

Balad Airbase, the central logistical hub for forces in Iraq, is the busiest air base operated by the US Department of Defense and is the second busiest airport in the world, following London's Heathrow Airport. In terms of total military population, Balad Airbase serves approximately 15,000 servicemembers, of which approximately 6,000 are Air Force.

"The International Region is pleased to represent the university in our continuing efforts to provide aviation-related educational opportunities to our servicemembers wherever they are found defending our freedom," said Donna Roberts, International Regional Dean for the Worldwide Campus.

Under the US Central Command (CENTCOM) military education contract, Embry-Riddle is one of three schools authorized to maintain a presence at the education centers on US military bases in Iraq in order to provide military members and supporting civilians both onsite classroom courses and online learning opportunities.

"We are honored to have the opportunity to strengthen our commitment to providing education to the dedicated men and women serving our country," said Marty Smith, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Campus.

Currently no aviation programs are being offered at the Iraq military education centers. Embry-Riddle holds exclusivity under the CENTCOM contract for the aviation portion of education for military bases in the Middle East.
