Sporty's Awards Two Aviation Exploring Scholarships

Two high school students have each been awarded $1000 from the 2003 Sporty’s Pilot Shop Aviation Exploring Scholarship program. Both scholarship winners want to be airline pilots.

Fuchsia Davis, 17, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is a private pilot with more than 250 flight hours and is working on her instrument rating. She is a member of the Civil Air Patrol and the Black Pilots' Association.

William J. Simmons, 18, of San Antonio, Texas, is a private pilot with a multiengine rating and has more than 125 hours. He earned his Eagle Scout designation in 2000. Fuschia and William were presented their scholarship checks in local ceremonies. They can use the money to advance any aspect of their aviation careers.

Aviation Exploring is a youth development program open to young women and men between to ages of fourteen and twenty.
