Details About DJI Mavic Mini Found In FCC Filing

Announcement Of The New Drone May Be Coming Soon

The FCC has posted information about an application for a new DJI drone that industry watchers believe may be the next new product to be announced by the dronemaker.

The communications agency posted a docket for what is being called the DJI Mavic Mini. There are few details about the aircraft, but the blog Techradar reports that rumors about the small drone first surfaced in August when DJI filed for a patent in China for the aircraft. Leaked images showed a small aircraft resembling both the DJI Spark and the Mavic Air.

The Mavic Mini will reportedly have folding propellers like larger Mavic models. It would weigh just 250 grams, or under nine ounces, meaning it would not require registration with the FAA or most other aviation authorities.

But the Mavic Mini might sport a 12 MP sensor capable of capturing 4K video, which the Spark does not.

There is no information about battery life, but Techradar believes that it would be in the same category as the Spark with about 18 minutes of flight time.

The Mavic Mini is rumored to come in at about $399 retail. The filing with the FCC is leading industry watchers to believe that a formal announcement from DJI may be imminent, perhaps hitting stores in time for Christmas.
