Pilot Fatally Injured In CA Accident Had History With The FAA

Was Facing Fourth Revocation Proceeding For Falsifying Medical Information

The pilot involved in an accident on August 6th in which two people were fatally injured reportedly had a history of issues with the FAA.

The Los Angeles Times reports that 58-year-old David Martz of San Diego had lost his airman privileges on three separate occasions before the accident, and was facing a fourth revocation proceeding when the plane he was flying went down.

Martz allegedly provided false information about two drunk driving convictions in 2013 and 2014 in order to obtain a medical certificate. He handed over the medical in June as part of an FAA investigation.

Martz was pilot in command of a Cessna 182 that went down in the Los Padres National Forest north of Ojai, CA. Authorities said he reported engine trouble before the plane went down in a remote area of the National Forest.

Also fatally injured was 56-year-old San Diego resident Greg Bacino.
