Violent Winter Storm Causes Damage At KBFI

Three Planes Suffer In High Winds

A violent winter storm last week along the Pacific coast that left many Seattle residents without power, and led to several delays at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, caused significant damage to at least three planes tied down at Boeing Field/King County International.

ANN reader Steve Masters sent along his pictures of the damage, that came after wind gusts as high as 67 knots were recorded at KBFI, which is located in the northern section of the city.

The Highline Times reports a record wind gust of almost 80 knots was recorded at SeaTac.

Masters told Aero-News it appears the blue C172 became airborne (wind speeds at BFI were over 10 knots greater than the takeoff speed for a Skyhawk) and impacted the red Skylane. It looks like both planes then ended up on the Baron.

Seattle residents say it was the worst storm to hit the area in nearly 14 years. We don't doubt it.
