AD: Airbus Airplanes

AD Number: 2018-06-01

PRODUCT: Certain Airbus Model A318, A319, A320, and A321 series airplanes; all Model A330-200 Freighter, -200, and -300 series airplanes; and all Model A340-200, -300, -500, and -600 series airplanes.

ACTION: Final Rule.

SUMMARY: This AD was prompted by reports of false traffic collision avoidance system (TCAS) resolution advisories. This AD requires modifying the software in the TCAS computer processor or replacing the TCAS computer with a new TCAS computer.

DATES: This AD is effective April 30, 2018.

COST: The FAA estimates that this AD affects 205 airplanes of U.S. registry. The cost of compliance is estimated to be:

  • Software modification: 2 work-hours × $85 per hour = $170 per aircraft
  • TCAS replacement: 2 work-hours × $85 per hour = $170 per aircraft. Parts cost $298. Total cost per aircraft $468.
