Extended Range Air Traffic Communications Planned For Curacao

NGC Subsidiary To Provide The High-Power System

A contract to supply a high power, ground-to-air communication system to the Dutch Caribbean Air Navigation Service Provider (DC-ANSP) has been awarded to Park Air Systems, a U,K.-based air traffic management subsidiary of Northrop Grumman Corporation.

Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems initially conducted a site survey, followed by a detailed assessment of the predicted coverage that would be achieved. The latest high power 200W T6 VHF radios have been delivered as part of the system. The installation of the radios, to be located on the hilltop site Seru Gracia on the island of Curacao, will provide ground-to-air communications for pilots throughout the Curacao Flight Information Region, one of the busiest in the Caribbean region due to the high volume of flights between North and South America.

The set of extended range communication solutions includes transmitters with a power of up to 300W, mast-head amplifiers and high-gain antenna arrays. The company has specialized in providing extended range communication facilities for oceanic airspace since the company was formed. These high power VHF systems provide a key communications service in areas such as Hudson Bay in Canada, Greenland in the North Atlantic, the Bay of Bengal, the South China Sea and the Arabian Gulf.

Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems will be exhibiting at the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation's Latin America & Caribbean Conference, to be held in Curacao on 14 June 2013, where the conference theme is "Transforming Air Traffic Management Performance through Regional Cooperation and Collaboration." The company will be highlighting its airport real time collaboration capability, ARC, which consists of a comprehensive portfolio of supporting software products and services. ARC can bring efficiencies to airside and terminal operations and improve planning and flow through security.
