SportairUSA Intros EPApower, Light-Weight Power For Competition

Producing Two Variants Of The Popular Rotax 912 Engine

SportairUSA, the American marketer and distributor light sport aircraft, announces EPApower engines and performance parts for Rotax. SportairUSA is currently showing the Dallair FR-100 Light Sport Aerobat, powered by EPApower, at AirVenture 2011. The engine, installed in the aircraft, is on display at the LSA Mall.

“EPApower has long built custom engines for automotive racing teams,” said Bill Canino, President of SportairUSA, “and has recently turned its attention to the aviation market. Based on the durable Rotax 900 series, EPApower builds the smoothest running, most powerful light-weight engine on the market.”

“EPApower engines and products have been flight-proven for many years in aerobatic practice and performancer,” Canino said. The EPApower SA-R915i is a 130hp competition engine, built Rotax 900 series base, with 1484cc displacement, electronic fuel injection, Gen2 auxiliary 26amp alternator, 4 into 1 exhaust, fully balanced and polished. An inverted oil system is available for aerobatic aircraft.

EPApower also produces two variants of the Rotax 912 ULS engine. The SA-R912i is a polished and dynamically balanced 912 ULS with EPApower electronic fuel injection and electronic ignition management. The 912+ is a polished and dynamically balanced 912 ULS. In competition or in practice the Snap! burns 5 gph of premium auto fuel, and little-to-no oil, making it inexpensive to own and operate. With its low wing and bubble canopy the Snap! combines classic styling with excellent visibility and easy handling.

Of particular interest to owners of Rotax 900-series engines is the 26-Amp Gen@ Coaxial Alternator. Unlike conventional auxiliary alternators for the Rotax, the Gen2 is mounted coaxially with the existing alternator, operates at true engine speed rather that reduced propeller speed, and outputs dependable auxiliary electrical power even when operating at or near engine idle under high electrical load, such as night or IFR approach to landing and ground operations.

The Gen2 is available as an aftermarket improvement to Rotax owners of experimental or production aircraft.
