LEO Flight Unveils All-Electric Flying Car

Design Showcased in the Midst of Monterey Car Week

On August 14, LEO Flight virtually unveiled their LEO Couple -- a groundbreaking all-electric flying car. This debut surfaced during Monterey Car Week’s annual celebration of automotive innovation.

LEO Flight Corporation was founded by Pete Bitar and Carlos Salaff in 2021. So far, they have developed and built several with a range of teams and organizations, including Mazda Motor Corporation and the U.S. military. Along their journey, they realized that the invention of flying cars was within reach, and took it upon themselves to pursue it.

In the same year as its creation, LEO Flight was presented the NASA HeroX award for innovation and manufactured its DARPA approved electric propulsion system. Then, in 2022, they designed and validated the LEO Coupe and built their LX-1 demo aircraft. They began the LX-1 aircraft’s testing phase a year later. Now, the LEO Coupe demo aircraft is in the early stages of development.

"Since the advent of the Space Age, when we think of the future we've always dreamed about flying cars," says Carlos Salaff, Co-Founder and Design Director of LEO Flight. "The LEO Coupe 2-seat flying car is our vision of that future come to fruition."

The design of the LEO Coupe is straight out of a sci-fi movie. It features a patented cluster electric jet propulsion system, providing a cruise speed of 200 mph and a range of 250 miles per charge. The eVTOL can land on a charging pad “just about anywhere,” the company says, allowing for simplified long-distance travel.

The LEO Coupe has several safety elements. It has over 200 lift jets for added redundancy, emergency glide and floatation capabilities, a recovery parachute, and airbags. It also contains auto take-off, land, and stabilization technology for pilot ease.

The vehicle is expected to be certified under the FAA’s (hopefully) upcoming release of MOSAIC. It is slated to begin production in 2027.
