Australian Goverment Rejects Reports Of 2003 Al-Qaeda Airliner Plot

'Intelligence Correct, Assessment Flawed'

Was Australia a terrorist target three years ago? The government in Canberra says... nope.

That contradicts an intelligence report from the US, that says al-Qaeda terrorists planned to hijack aircraft and crash them into buildings in Australia, the US, Britain and Italy.

The report suggested terrorists would hide bombs inside cameras, and disguise tasers as flash attachments.

Now, however, even the US Department of Homeland Security says that while the intelligence was essentially correct... the assessment of that information was flawed, and later changed.

"We have no information to indicate that Australia was or has ever been implicated in that particular plot," a spokeswoman for Australian Attorney-General Philip Ruddock told the Australian Associated Press.

Still,if the information was indeed correct -- regardless of the assessment -- it's an indication that terrorists still find aircraft alluring targets... and weapons.
