Classic Aero-TV: Dynon’s ‘Hands-On’ Approach – Innovative Touch Screen Avionics

From 2015 (YouTube Version): A 'Touching' Demonstration About the State of Innovation in Today's Sport Avionics

Dynon avionics has championed the production of avionics equipment for experimental and light sport aircraft. Some of the innovations in their products have started in the experimental world and moved into type certificated aircraft. ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, talks with Robert Hamilton, the president of Dynon Avionics to get an update regarding their product line.

Hamilton starts off by talking about their “touch” line of products that moved the touchscreen, popular in other non-aviation consumer items, into the cockpit. He points out that touchscreen offers advantages yet it is still necessary to have some sort of knob control of the display to make it easier to operate in turbulence. As he explains the features of the Dynon system, the video provides an excellent visual of what their system can do.

In the video, Hamilton explains how they can retrofit existing systems to the touchscreen operation. This allows flexibility and the cost-saving over buying a completely new system. The conversation allows us to follow along as Hamilton operates the system.

If you’re looking for information about avionics for experimental and light sport aircraft, this video is a good place to start.
