Aerobatic Pilot Jim Doyle Dies Fatally Injured In Skybolt Accident

The Well-Known And Respected Aircraft Homebuilder Was Lost When His Airplane Went Down About 37 Miles Southeast Of Fort Worth

Pilot James Doyle was fatally injured when his airplane went down at Midway Regional Airport in Texas June 28. It’s reported by the FAA that the accident occurred at about 1700 local time, and according to a report issued on CBS news, Doyle was performing aerobatic maneuvers at the time.

According to a report in the Fort Worth Star Telegram, Doyle built the airplane over a 13 year period and was awarded a bronze Lindy trophy for his good work at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh in 2011. At the time he won the award he said in a newspaper interview that it had taken about 5,000 hours of work to complete the airplane.

According to the report, Doyle was 49 years old, married, and had one daughter. We will update this report when more information is available.
