Aero-TV At Oshkosh 2009: Looking Back At Day Two

Welcome to Aero-TV’s Daily Update from EAA AirVenture Oshkosh for Tuesday, July 28th, 2009.

Tuesday was the AirVenture’s “Discovery Day,” and featured a variety of imaginative aircraft.

In the morning, Samson Motorworks revealed its Switchblade cut-away engineering mock-up to an eager crowd. CEO Sam Bousfield sat down with Aero-TV to discuss what drives his company’s innovation.

Further on that path of innovation, Yuneec International presented its new e430 two-place electric-powered LSA.  The all-composite airplane is branded as the world’s first commercially produced two-seat electric aircraft,” and features a 45-foot glider-like wing, a V-tail, and a 40-kilowatt electric motor.

Virgin Galactic had an exciting day as it made the first public demonstration flight of VMS Eve. After the craft landed at AeroShell Square, Sir Richard Branson talked about his first flight in the vehicle,  a close-up encounter with the future of space travel.

It would take quite an aircraft to dwarf the WhiteKnightTwo. The arrival of the Airbus A380 did just that. AeroShell Square was transformed in anticipation of its arrival. The double-deck, four-engine airliner can hold up to 853 passengers and is the world’s largest passenger airliner. Tuesday was the A380’s first AirVenture appearance.

Join us tomorrow for a look at the Grimes Flying Lab, as well as a special profile of the new Team MS760 Aerobatic jet air show team, on the next Aero-TV daily update from EAA AirVenture Oshkosh.
