FAA, EASA Approve Active Winglets For Cessna Citation Aircraft

Tamarack Aerospace Group Developed Active Winglets For CJ3 and CJ3+ Jets

The FAA and EASA have approved ATLAS Active Winglets developed by Tamarack Aerospace on the Cessna Citation business jet line, with new authorizations for the C525B series, which includes the CJ3 and CJ3+ aircraft. Tamarack already has approvals on the C525 CJ series.

“Regulatory approval of our latest STC amendment for the Citation CJ3 and CJ3+ proves what our existing CJ owners have known since their installs.” said Nick Guida, Founder and CEO of Tamarack Aerospace. “Active Winglets on the C525, and now on the C525B, dramatically enhance the performance of the aircraft. With ATLAS you can climb faster, fly farther and burn less fuel. We flew our Active Winglet CJ3 from Paris, Texas to Paris, France last year in one stop. We’ve been wowing pilots with that CJ3 demo aircraft for over a year and it is exciting that they can now get the upgrade for their aircraft. This STC also demonstrates how agile the Tamarack team has become in obtaining multiple sequential regulatory approvals, so I am very proud of this accomplishment.”

The operational benefits that owners will see with an Active Winglet equipped aircraft are:

  • Range now 2,100 nm at Maximum Continuous Thrust with IFR reserve.
  • Maximum Zero Fuel Weight increase of 400 lb.
  • Direct climb to FL450 in 30 minutes or less.
  • Increased climb gradients.
  • Improved single-engine climb performance.
  • Higher maximum takeoff weight across the WAT (Hot/High) tables.
  • Ride smoothing and stability.
  • Upgraded LED navigation & anti-collision lighting.

"Beyond range and time to climb, owners will also see the other benefits of Tamarack’s Active Winglets such as stability, improved hot/high performance, new LED exterior lighting, aesthetics and value retention," said Brian Cox, Chief Operating Officer of Tamarack Aerospace. "We’ve recently expanded our installation capacity at our Sandpoint, ID facility and we now offer a one week, plus painting time, install here by the factory experts.”

Tamarack says its Active Winglets are the only aerodynamic technology on the market today that can reduce time to climb and fuel burn, while increasing range and aircraft stability, without any structural reinforcement, yielding significant time and cost savings. Tamarack Active Winglets are approved via EASA and FAA Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for installation on the Cessna CJ, CJ1, CJ1+, M2, CJ3 and CJ3+ business jets. Certification is underway on the on the CJ2/CJ2+ and is projected for April 2018. MSRP on the CJ3 Active Winglet is $289,000 USD and for the CJ3+ is $319,000.
