Somebody's About To Buy A Lot Of Heavy Iron

Dubai Reportedly Ready To Make Huge Purchase At Paris Air Show

At aircraft manufacturers' sales offices in London, Paris and Chicago, nobody's talking (though they might be smiling...). But Emirates, an airline based in Dubai, is reportedly ready to order as many as 69 brand-spanking-new wide-bodies from both Airbus and Boeing.

A Few Salesmen Are Gonna Get Some Golf Clubs Out Of This Deal

A number of media entities are reporting that Emirates will order 23 Airbus mega-jets, A380s (making 45 the total number Emirates will have on order), ten A340s, and 26 Boeing 777 ERs (extended range).

Emirates will reportedly announce the purchase on June 16.

The cost?

At retail: $12 billion. There's no word on what you pay when you order 20 or more A380s... or 777s, for that matter. With the airline industry - and the airline manufacturing industry - in free-fall right now, you can bet both Airbus and Boeing are telling Emirates, "We're dealin'."
