XCOR May Be Nearly Ready To Throw In The Towel

Lays Off Remaining Employees In CA And TX, Some Executives Remain

XCOR has struggled to find its way in recent years, and now the company has finally let the last of its employees go from its facilities in Mojave, CA and Midland, TX.

Parabolic Arc reports that in a statement the company said that it had terminated all of its employees as of June 30, 2017. "XCOR management will retain critical employees on a contract basis to maintain the company’s intellectual property and is actively seeking other options that would allow it to resume full employment and activity,” the company said in the statement.

XCOR has seen its share of shakeups in the past couple of years. In March 2015, the company hired CEO Jay Gibson to replace founder Jeff Greason, who shifted his focus to completing the two-seat Lynx suborbital spaceplane. But that did not sit well with Greason, who within eight months had left the company entirely along with the other founders, Dan DeLong and Aleta Jackson, to found Agile Aerospace.

More recently, Gibson was tapped by President Donald Trump for a top post in the Defense Department. He left the company last month.

XCOR laid off half its workforce in May 2016 ... about 25 people ... and suspended development of the Lynx. The company shifted its focus to rocket engines, and was working on an upper stage for ULA's Vulcan launch system.
