APA President Says AA Is An Airline 'On The Cheap'

Says There Has Been A Cultural Shift Since Berger With US Airways

American Airlines has adopted an "on the cheap" philosophy since its merger with USAirways, according to a letter sent to the airline's 15,000 pilots by Allied Pilots Association president Keith Wilson.

Writing for Forbes, contributor Ted Reed says that Wilson ranked American last among the three global carriers in "total compensation, (including United Airlines, whose pilots just inked a two-year contract extension); fatiguing and low quality of life trips; degraded hotels; paycheck miscalculations; {pilot scheduling} (and) obsession with D-zero door slamming on all customers and non-rev passengers under heavy threat of discipline for non-compliance.”

Wilson also said there are issues with vacation scheduling software and payroll software that has resulted in mis-stated earnings, income tax withholdings, and retirement plan contributions.

A spokesman for American said that they are aware of the problems, and they will be resolved when the new consolidated flight operating system is fully implemented later this year.
