Aero-News Alert: Colgan Air B-1900 Down In Nantucket Sound

Ferry Flight Had No Passengers Onboard

A commuter aircraft is reported down in Nantucket Sound. The Beech 1900, a Colgan Air ferry flight departing Hyannis, Mass, enroute to Albany, NY, has been confirmed as the aircraft involved in an accident off of Nantucket Sound.

The airline stresses that there were no passengers aboard the aircraft. The aircraft was flying to Albany to position for "future operations." Two crewmembers operating the Beech 1900 aircraft were the only people on board.

Colgan Air operates under a marketing agreement as US Airways Express. Colgan Air, Inc. is a regional airline with 30+ years experience. Its headquarters are based in Manassas, Virginia, and it became a US Airways Express Carrier in late 1999. CA provides daily scheduled air service to 31 cities in 11 states. The fleet numbers 16 Beechcraft 1900, 19 passenger turbo-prop aircraft, and 7 Saab 340B, 34 passenger aircraft.

Since there were no passengers, US Airways will not be implementing any special procedures for public inquiries.
