Pilot Makes Post-Crash Video Floating On The Gulf Of Mexico

Events Lead To Major Donation To His Aviation-Focused Charity

A pilot who ditched his airplane in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Lousiana had the presence of mind to grab his iPad as he was getting out of the sinking airplane. While floating in the water with the person who had been his passenger in the airplane, he made a 1 minute 22 second video with the device, which he said he didn't think anyone would ever see. Pilot T.R. Wright said making the video was just a "way to pass the time."

The pair were eventually rescued by the Coast Guard after about three horus in the water.

But Wright is also the founder of an organization and charity called "Around the World for Life", which has a mission of getting kids interested in aviation and improving quality of life for children with cancer and other diseases. He wants to fly around the world, but losing his airplane in the water was obviously a setback. He still plans to make that trip.

Television station KTRK reports that the campaign got a boost Saturday, when Lifeproof, the company what made the case which protected Wright's iPad from the water as they floated in the Gulf of Mexico, has made a $25,000 donation to Wright's charity.
