Allegiant Air Winding Down Operations at Austin-Bergstrom International

South Terminal Slated for Demolition Amid Airport Expansion

Allegiant Air has announced the closure of its base at the Austin Bergstrom International Airport (KAUS) ahead of the upcoming closure of the southern terminal there.

Officially, the crew and aircraft base there will be terminated early next year. Allegiant reassured locals that they wouldn't leave the region of Austin, Texas hanging, intending to continue operations from the Barbara Jordan Terminal at Bergstrom. Allegiant's home at the airport has been smack dab in the center of a lawsuit for some time, which ultimately ceded operational oversight to the City of Austin. The South Terminal will likely be dismantled in early 2026, paving the way for an expanded concourse in its place.

"We appreciate the important value Allegiant Air brings to Central Texas travelers with their nonstop flight offerings," stated airport officials. "Our focus remains on providing a safe, comfortable, and authentically Austin experience for all AUS customers, regardless of their airline choice."

The bad news is that a handful of routes to smaller regional destinations will ultimately be cut from the Allegiant schedule: Flights from Austin, Texas to Bozeman, Montana; Eugene, Oregon; Louisville, Kentucky; Santa Ana, California; Omaha, Nebraska; Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Washington Dulles International Airport will be discontinued. Those in the Austin area have a little while longer until everything wraps up and moves shop from Bergstrom, at least, with the official termination date scheduled for January 7th of 2025.
