Milestone Young Eagle Earns Private Pilot Certificate

Jodie Gawthorp Was The Two-Millionth YE, Flew With Harrison Ford At AirVenture, 2016

The young woman who was the two-millionth Young Eagle, who had the special experience of flying with Harrison Ford at AirVenture 2016, has earned her Private Pilot certificate at the age of 18.

Ladies Love Taildraggers reports on its blog that Gawthorp now lives in Indianapolis, where she met Ladies Love Taildraggers founder and president Judy Birchler and went flying with Birchler in her Decathlon. She is particularly fond of warbirds, taildraggers and hot air balloons, according to the report .

Birchler said that Gawthorp mentioned "casually" that she had been the two-millionth Young Eagle during the flight. For being the milestone YE, Gawthorp received an all-expenses-paid trip to AirVenture 2016 along with her family, a Lightspeed headset, and a $7,500 flight training scholarship that gave her the opportunity to earn her private pilot certificate.

Gawthorp told Birchler that she plans to pursue a career in aviation, including working towards an A&P license. It would seem that she has a bright future ahead of her among our ranks.
