Japan's Misawa Air Base Hosts Annual Air Show

More Than 100,000 People Attend The Show In An All-Day Rain

More than 100,000 people braved the rain to attend the annual air show held at Misawa Air Base, Japan.

The air show is a combined effort between the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marines, U.S. Air Force, and the Japan Air Self-Defense Force.

Although the rain was constant the entire day, numerous types of aircraft from each organization were on display for visitors to observe and hear about by each one's subject matter expert.

A lot of the air show's attention was focused on the static displays of two MV-22 Osprey Helicopters flown in for the show by the marines from Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 262 - "the Flying Tigers".

"I feel very honored to have the privilege to come up here and represent my squadron and the Osprey community," said Marine Capt. Carl McCrory. "It was great, there were long lines to get inside to see the Osprey and be with the crew, so it was a very nice reception."

The Ospreys, which use wings to cruise and tiltrotors to land and take off vertically are able to travel much further distances than a conventional helicopter.

"It's very exciting to be able to demonstrate the capabilities of the Osprey to the people up here," said McCrory.

This was the first time the MV-22 Ospreys had flown in Aomori prefecture in Northern Japan.
