Arrested Pilot Allegedly Flew For Drug Cartel

Suspected Of Working With Mexican Los Chapitos Gang

Mexican security forces arrested a pilot who is suspected of flying for “Los Chapitos,” a drug cartel headed by the sons of Joaquin Guzman, also known as “El Chapo.” The pilot known as “El Jando” was detained in the northern city of Culiacan where the cartel operates.

The operation to nab El Jando resulted in the death of one soldier. His attorneys have requested the court for additional time to prepare his defense.

Mexican intelligence alleges that the pilot is an important leader of Los Chapitos and that he had a role in the sting operation leading to the arrest of cartel kingpin “El Mayo Zambada” in the U.S.

The Mexican security minister Omar Garcia Harfuch said in a news conference that he could confirm “El Jando” is the trusted pilot for “Los Chapitos.” Prosecutors also allege that in addition to being the cartel’s pilot, “El Jando” is involved in trafficking of drugs and guns as well as bombing attacks on Mexican Security forces.

The intelligence services are eager to attempt getting information from “El Jando” regarding the secret operation resulting in the transport of “El Mayo” into the U.S. where he was arrested by federal agents.

Meanwhile, “El Chapo” is currently confined to the super maximum security federal prison in Florence, Colorado, serving a life sentence with no possibility of parole for convictions related to his leadership of the Sinaloa cartel.
