CA Skydivers Hope To Make Record-Setting Wingsuit Attempt

Looking To Best Existing Record Of 42 Jumpers ... By A Lot

The current record for a group wingsuit jump is 42 skydivers, set earlier this year in Belgium. The record was the first under new rules issued by the sport's governing body this year.

Now, Skydive Perris in Perris, CA hopes to ... in the words of one jumper ... "crush" that record with a wingsuit formation of as many as 80 individuals.

Wingsuit formations form distinct, recognizable patters such as a diamond or an arrowhead, but the individual jumpers do not touch one another. The stunts require a great deal of practice, which is what is going on over the southern California desert near Los Angeles this week.

The Press Enterprise newspaper reports that an attempt was planned for Tuesday, but on the Skydive Perris Facebook page, participants as late as Wednesday only talked about practice jumps and training with 40 individuals.

To get credit for the formation, individuals need to be about 10 feet apart, and defined edges must be recognizable.
