Indonesian Navy Accepts First Genesys-Equipped CN-235 Aircraft

The Book of Genesys

Indonesian Aerospace (PTDI) has delivered the first CN-235 aircraft equipped with the Genesys Aerosystems Avionics Suite to the Indonesian Navy for maritime patrol and additional naval missions.

The avionics suite comprises Electronic Flight Information System (EFIS) displays with embedded Flight Management System (FMS) and Class-A Terrain Avoidance and Warning System (TAWS), dual Air Data/Attitude/Heading Reference System (ADAHRS), dual Global Positioning System/Satellite-Based Augmentation System (GPS/SBAS) receivers, Genesys Digital Radio (GDR) integrated VHF/UHF software-defined digital radios, and Genesys’s S-TEC digital autopilot.

The CASA/IPTN CN-235 is a medium-range twin-engined transport aircraft developed jointly by CASA of Spain and Indonesian manufacturer IPTN. The aircraft is operated as both a regional airliner and military transport; its primary military roles include air-transport and aerial surveillance.

Genesys business unit director Nick Bogner stated: “Genesys is excited to partner with PTDI and the Indonesian Navy to support this important maritime aircraft with our state-of-the-art special-mission avionics. The Genesys avionics suite is specifically designed and certified for demanding military and paramilitary applications and the open architecture allows for an elegant and seamless integration of third-party special-mission equipment.”

The Genesys Avionics Suite provides renewed aircraft operational life to aircraft by dint of a complete, comprehensive, and affordable cockpit-system-upgrade to existing fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft. The suite includes the following components:

  • EFIS Glass Upgrade – Customizable Primary and Multi-Function Flight Displays
  • FMS - Flight Management
  • SVS - Synthetic Vision System
  • HITS - Highway-In-The-Sky flight symbology
  • TAWS - Fixed-Wing & Helicopters
  • EICAS Upgrade – Engine Indicating and Crew Alerting System
  • Autopilot Upgrade - Helicopter VFR & IFR approved Autopilots
  • Autopilot Upgrade - Fixed-Wing S-TEC VFR & IFR approved Autopilots
  • Radios – UHF & VHF Navigation and Communication aircraft radios
  • ADAHRS Only Upgrade – Legacy attitude source replacements
  • Interfaces – Includes all necessary interfaces to get the aircraft up and flying
  • Sensors – Includes all necessary sensors to get the aircraft up and flying

Since its 1978 founding as S-TEC, Genesys Aerosystems has shipped over forty-thousand airplane and helicopter autopilot systems. From low-cost analog wing levelers to sophisticated, digital, three-axis systems with flight director and envelope protection, Genesys holds over 1,500 FAA and international certifications for more than one-thousand aircraft types.

One of Genesys Aerosystems’ divisions is headed up by the pioneers behind the world’s first FAA-certified 3D Synthetic Vision flight display system and GPS-WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) navigator. Industry firsts such as Highway-In-The-Sky navigation have helped Genesys evolve into a market leader in integrated cockpit avionics systems for special-mission aircraft. All told, Genesys EFIS products have been certified on over seven-hundred different aircraft types in all four FAA regulatory classes: Part-23, Part-25, Part-27, and Part-29.
