New Orleans Won't Privatize Louis Armstrong International

NO Aviation Board Votes To Withdraw Its Petition To The FAA

The New Orleans Aviation Board has withdrawn its proposal to the FAA to privatize Louis Armstrong International Airport after analyzing "the conditions required to effectively privatize public infrastructure and the current state of capital markets."

The Wall Street Journal reports that the FAA had accepted the privatization plan in September of last year. But this month, the board said it wanted to cancel those plans and proceed with a city initiative to improve the airport.

Other airports participating in the privatizaion plan are Air Glades Airport in Florida and Chicago's Midway Airport. Chicago officals had a deal with City Infrastruction Investors to privatize Midway, but that $2.5 billion deal fell through when the credit markets collapsed.
