Pipistrel To Receive Microlight Certification Under New German Rules

Thought To Be The First Aircraft Certified Under Europe's 600kg Technical LTFUL 2018 Rules

On the premise of EASA's new basic regulation, permitting for MTOW of 600kg (1,322 pounds) for microlights in Europe, Germany is the first country to implement the new technical LTFUL 2018 regulation. Through a collaboration between Deutscher Ultraleichtflugverband (DULV) and Pipistrel, Pipistrel is set to become the first to obtain new microlight certifications under these rules. The type certificate of first of Pipistrel’s series of new German certifications will be presented this week at AERO Friedrichshafen in Germany.

"Germany was the first country which has declared the opt-out. It is also the first country which developed and published the necessary airworthiness requirements for these aircraft (LTF-UL 2019, (NfL 2-446-19). The Second Implementing Regulation for the Regulation of Inspection of the Aircraft (2nd DV LuftGerPV) on April 10, 2019, appears in the Federal Journal," said Jo Konrad, Chairman of DULV. "Proudly and with satisfaction we are now able to hand over the first 600-kg type-certificate to the company Pipistrel for the VIRUS SW 600 D as an authorized body of the Federal Ministry of Transport. It is not only the first type certification in this category for us - probably also the first in Europe. The German type approval is recognized in many European countries. By this and in connection with the high quality of the Pipistrel products, we wish the VIRUS SW 600 D every success."

"In our mission to bring affordable and innovative aircraft to our customers, we are now offering an upgraded product for our microlight customer base, where we continue to bring value for those who are not as demanding as our customers of EASA Type-Certified Aircraft," said Ivo Boscarol, founder and CEO of Pipistrel.

The type certificate will be presented at AERO Friedrichshafen on Wednesday. The aircraft is already in serial production and available for deliveries worldwide.
