Signature Aviation Offers SAF At LAX

Site to Sport Blended Sustainable Fuels Across the Board from Here on Out

Signature Aviation has announced that its Los Angeles International Airport location will now offer blended Sustainable Aviation Fuel, doing away with traditional Jet-A from fresh petroleum stock.

While the overall news sounds quite progressive, some non-industry headlines applauding the change to "100% SAF", it should be noted that there's an asterisk there: it's 100% blended SAF, not quite the purely sustainable, freshly synthesized, eco-friendly stuff one imagines. The fuel will come from Neste's MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel program, one of the bigger sources of the new tech, and mixed with traditional jet fuel at a 30/70 split.  The changeover finished up on April 1st. Locals in the LA area should be happy to see it, though, since gallon-for-gallon, SAF supposedly reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 80% compared to the usual Jet-A. Signature believes that its LAX blend will let users cut their emissions by about 24%.

"This is a transformative time for Signature, and our partnership with Neste is helping us take another significant step towards net zero by providing a 100% supply of blended SAF at our Los Angeles location," said Derek DeCross, Chief Commercial Officer at Signature Aviation. "This collaboration exemplifies how we're working together with both our guests and our partners to accelerate the adoption of environmentally friendly practices and paving the way for a more sustainable future in aviation."

"We are proud to continue expanding our collaboration with committed partners like Signature Aviation, who recognize the key role sustainable aviation fuel can play in reducing GHG emissions from air travel. Offering blended Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel to all of its customers at LAX is a shining example of how the business aviation community can work together with fuel producers to accelerate SAF adoption and emission reductions," says Carrie Song, Senior Vice President Commercial, Renewable Products at Neste.
