FAA Approves Ravn Alaska's Safety Management System

Meets Standards Set By Much Larger Carriers

The FAA has approved the Safety Management System (SMS) developed by Ravn Air Group, Alaska's largest regional airline.

"Ravn is committed to providing the very best in local and regional air travel across the state of Alaska, and that always means putting the safety of our customers and our team members above all else," said Ravn's president and CEO Dave Pflieger. "We're excited Ravn now has an FAA-accepted program that has the same processes and meets the same standards that are in place at much larger major U.S. airlines."

An SMS program looks proactively at how to identify and mitigate safety issues. It ensures safety is folded into every facet of an airline's operation, informing the policies and procedures that are put in place and therefore formalizing the processes for assessing potential risks and taking action to make sure any risks are promptly addressed.

"Ravn's safety culture starts with our people," said Pflieger. "Our team members know that the safety of our passengers and our team members is our top priority and that we expect everyone to play an active role in ensuring we operate at the highest level of safety possible."
