Bizjet Down On Landing At Aspen Airport

Canadair Challenger 601 Flipped Over after Landing

One person was fatally injured Sunday when a Canadair CL-600 Challenger 601 went down during a landing attempt at Aspen Pitkin County Airport in Colorado (KASE).

According to the Aviation Safety Network, the flight had departed from Tucson International Airport (KTUS) after arriving in Arizona from Toluca, Mexico. The plane departed Tucson at 1004 MST, according to the information from Aviation Safety Network.

The landing attempt on which the accident occurred was the second the pilot had made. The pilot executed a missed approach after reporting "thirty-three knots of tailwind." Other flights into the airport had reported low-level windshear and a speed increase of five-20 knots on approach.

The plane flipped over and came to rest upside down on Runway 15, according to the report. There were three people on board. One was fatally injured and a second suffered injuries described as "severe." The third suffered "moderate" injuries.

The plane's right wing was sheared off the fuselage and a post-impact fire ensued.
