UND Takes Top Honors in Regional Meet

Looking for Spring, and the Nationals

This weekend's interscholastic flying competition in Grand Forks (ND) was dominated by favorite-son UND, as the 14-member team trounced competition from St Cloud University, the University of Dubuque (IA), and Minnesota State (Mankato).

University of North Dakota's 289 points totaled more than the next two finishers' combined, in the Region V National Intercollegiate Flying Association's Safety and Flight Evaluation Conference competition.

There were four flying events and seven ground, or 'paper,' events. UND did well in all, but their safety officer was quoted locally as having said they'd like to work a little more on the air work before heading to Murfreesboro (TN).

The NIFA national championships will be held at Middle Tennessee State University, in May. Last year, UND was second at the nats -- behind Embry-Riddle. UND has won 12 of the past 18 nationals.

This weekend, the Region IV championships will be held in Louisiana (second link).
