Family Day At Airbase Arizona Museum Returns

A 30,000 Square-Feet Exhibit Floor Is Filled With Rare Artifacts

Airbase Arizona is celebrating the return of its popular Family Fun Day event Saturday January 14th from 10 am to 4 pm!

Every month through October on the second Saturday of each month, exciting activities for the whole family are planned on these specially discounted days where admission is $5 per person or $10 for a family of four with access to all ground exhibits and activities. Annual pass holders are free.

Sit in the pilot seat of a modern electronic pilot simulator, learn to take off, fly and land. Hosted and led by the local Civil Air Patrol unit, it is an exciting experience for kids 12 and under, and probably a few adults too.

Overall activities for Family Fun Day include:

  • Interactive engine displays -- see and operate specialized hands-on displays (some full scale) that show how wings lift airplanes and engines power them.
  • Aviation Technology Challenge -- hands-on activities for kids age 12 and under. Offered from 11 am to 2 pm. Flight simulator offered in January courtesy of Civil Air Patrol.
  • Speaker: '303 Squadron' -- the inspiring story of the Polish pilots who fought as part of the Royal Air Force in WWII against the Nazi's during the Battle of Britain. Offered at 1 pm.
  • Sand Shark! -- the newest aircraft on display is the mighty AH-1F Cobra attack helicopter honoring 'Sand Shark' and the battles fought in the 1990-91 Gulf War. Exhibit open all day and special ceremony to welcome the exhibit starts at 11 am runs one hour with speakers and U.S. Coast Guard band.

Several aircraft are on display for exhibit covering over 100 years of military aviation and a 30,000 square-feet exhibit floor is filled with rare artifacts and stories of persons who served their country during important times in history.

The museum is located at 2017 N. Greenfield Rd., Mesa, AZ 85215 (northeast corner of McKellips & Greenfield intersection) telephone 480-924-1940. Free parking.
