Electronic Standby Instrument System Designed For Part 23 Airplanes, Part 27 Helicopters
L-3 Aviation Products (L-3 AP) has introduced its next- generation Electronic Standby Instrument (ESI), the GENESIS ESI-500. The standby unit is designed specifically for Class I, II and III Part 23 aircraft and Part 27 helicopters. It features a three-inch display that incorporates synthetic vision (SynVis), obstacles, terrain alerting and navigation. L-3’s ESI-500 is compatible with existing NAV and GPS equipment, facilitating ease of installation and interconnectivity.

“L-3’s GENESIS ESI-500 is an advanced standby system for the piston, turboprop and light jet markets,” said Larry Riddle, L-3 Aviation Products vice president of marketing and sales for general aviation. “Its feature set and price range are exactly what smaller airplane and helicopter owners have been waiting for.”
The GENESIS ESI-500 features a high-resolution, 24-bit color display for the presentation of altitude, attitude, airspeed, aircraft track, vertical speed, airspeed awareness cues and slip/skid information. An internal battery powers the unit in the event of a panel power failure. The scalable ESI-500 has numerous display options, including SynVis, navigation, terrain alerting, obstacles, metric altitude, vertical speed and heading. The unit can be configured per aircraft performance specifications to include an airspeed awareness band highlighting VNE and VMO cues.
“When pilots view the vibrant display, they’ll be impressed by the amount of data that is available in this class of standby,” added Riddle. “L-3’s 40 years of standby technology and experience culminate in the GENESIS ESI-500.”
