Army Paratrooper Fatally Injured In Training Exercise

Was Participating In A Free Fall Training Jump In Arizona

A U.S. Army soldier was fatally injured Tuesday in a free fall training exercise near Elroy, AZ.

Fox News reports that the soldier has not been identified, but the accident was confirmed by Army Special Operations Command spokesperson Lt. Col. Loren Bymer.

Bymer said no additional information was immediately available due to an ongoing investigation into the accident.

The Army Times reports that Special Operations forces commonly train at Elroy, which is about three hours east of the Yuma Proving Grounds where the basic military freefall courses are conducted. Private companies run training courses at Elroy, operating from the Elroy Municipal Airport.

Last February, three members of the U.S. Army parachute demonstration team The Golden Knights were injured in a similar accident at Homestead Air Reserve Base near Miami. FL.
