FAA Recommends Inspection Of Some Airliner Seats

SAIB Responds To Reports Of Loose Passengers Seats On Some Airliners

The FAA has issued a Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin (SAIB) advising owners and operators of all transport category aircraft with Weber Aircraft LLC seats models 4001, 4004, 5150, 5200, 6002, 6200, 7001, 7501, 7502, 8000 and 8001 installed, that the rear track fittings, part number 840620-401/-403, can potentially be installed incorrectly.

There have been several reports of loose seat installations that could be related to improper rear seat track fitting installations and/or maintenance. During installation of the seat, the rear fitting’s shear plunger may not properly engage due to improper care and maintenance. Weber Aircraft LLC has developed MOD KIT–TRACK FITTING INSPECTION, Drawing 867330, Revision B, dated October 26, 2012, to aide the owner and operators of the affected model aircraft in reviewing inservice parts. The SIL also provides detailed inspection instructions to establish serviceability.

The FAA recommends that owners and operators of the transport category aircraft listed above review Weber Aircraft LLC Drawing 867330, Revision B, dated October 26, 2012, and inspect the seat installations for loose seats and incorrectly installed fittings.

The FAA said in the SAIB that "this airworthiness concern has not been determined to be an unsafe condition that would warrant the issuance of an airworthiness directive (AD)."
