Entire Career Focused On Rotary-Wing Aircraft
ANN has learned that Tom Marlow, who served as Chairman of the HAI Board of Directors in 1996, passed away just prior to HELI-EXPO 2012. His wife, Deanne, shared the news with HAI President Matt Zuccaro.
“This is indeed sad news and a loss to our industry. It was my good fortune to have served with Tom on the HAI Board,” said Zuccaro.
During a long career, Thomas H. Marlow (image provided by HAI) was responsible for helicopter operations in the petroleum, mining, forestry, shipping, agricultural, air taxi, heavy lift, and military segments of the industry. He also worked in helicopter manufacturing, flight operations, and marketing, both within the U.S. and internationally.
In addition to serving a term as its chairman, Marlow was a longtime member of the HAI Board of Directors, serving on numerous Association committees. He also instructed at both the HAI Helicopter Operator’s Management Course and the Advanced Management Course.
Marlow was a major supporter and facilitator of the Atlanta Short Haul Transportation System test program conducted in conjunction with the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics. The project, which involved more than 50 helicopters, was a proof-of-concept initiative to demonstrate advanced flight tracking technology utilized for air traffic control of helicopters in urban environments.
Marlow was the recipient of the HAI Fly Neighborly Award for his efforts involving urban helicopter development in Houston, Texas. He served on numerous government panels, providing expertise, and promoting the use of the helicopter. He was also a longtime supporter of Helicopter Foundation International through contributions and his participation in the Foundation’s annual Scholarship golf tournament.
