FAA SAFO Recommends Inspection Of V2500 Engine Fan Blades

May Not Meet Specifications For Sidewall Thickness

The FAA has issued a Safety Alert For Operators (SAFO) advising owners, operators, repair facilities, and maintenance technicians to a situation where several airworthiness approval tags (e.g., FAA Form 8130-3, Authorized Release Certificate) were issued indicating that V2500 fan blades were properly overhauled, however, these fan blades may not meet the VRS1003 blade repair limits for sidewall thickness.

GKN Aerospace Chem-tronics, Inc., (FAA certificate number CI3R) notified the FAA that numerous V2500 fan blades were issued an FAA Form 8130-3 for overhaul that may not meet blade wall thickness limits. A list of the affected blades is provided in the FMI link below.

All owners, operators, repair facilities, and maintenance technicians who purchased V2500 fan blades as identified in the table above should ensure all required inspections, including blade wall thickness inspection (VRS1003), are performed in accordance with the V2500 Engine Manual. This action helps to ensure that V2500 fan blades conform to serviceable limits.
